Ardha (अर्ध, Ardha) = halb
Matsyendra (मत्स्येन्द्र, Matsyendra) = König der Fische, ein mythologischer Yoga-Lehrer, der erste in der Tradition, er lernte direkt von Shiva (शिव, Śiva)
Asana (आसन, Āsana) = Position, Haltung, Sitz
Ardha Matsyendrasana (अर्ध मत्स्येन्द्रासन, Ardha Matsyendrāsana) = Position-von-Matsyendra
